The Five First Saturdays Devotion
On 5 Consecutive First Saturdays of the Month:
With the intention, in the heart, of making reparation to Mary for the sins committed against her, her name, her initiatives and images of her
- Go to Confession (8 days before or after, better before, but with this intention)
- Receive Communion in a state of grace
- Say a five-decade rosary
- Meditate on the 15 mysteries for 15 minutes

The History of the Five First Saturdays
1917
At Fatima, Portugal in 1917 the Blessed Mother appeared to three children, two of whom died shortly afterward. The body of one of those was found incorrupt many years later. Lucy was the oldest child and she entered a convent at a young age. She received several more visits throughout her long lifetime. (She only recently died.)
1925
In 1925 Lucy received another visit by Mary with the Child Jesus. Jesus said,
"Have compassion on the Heart of your Most Holy Mother, surrounded with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce Her at every moment, without there being anyone to make an act of reparation in order to take them away."
Then Mary held out her thorn-wreathed Heart and said,
"See, my daughter, my heart, surrounded by thorns with which ungrateful men wound it at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. You at least try to console me.
"Say to all who, for 5 months, on the first Saturdays, confess, receive Holy Communion, recite the Rosary, and keep Me company during 15 minutes while meditating on the 15 mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of making reparation to my Immaculate Heart, I promise to assist them at the hour of death with all the graces necessary for the salvation of their souls."
1926
On February 15, 1926 the Jesus as a Child appeared to Lucy at her convent garden saying,
"It is true, My daughter, that many souls begin, but few persevere to the very end, and those who persevere do it to receive the graces promised. The souls who make the five first Saturdays with fervor, and to make reparation to the Heart of your Heavenly Mother, please Me more than those who make fifteen, but are lukewarm and indifferent."
"My Jesus!" said Lucia. "Many souls find it difficult to confess on Saturday. Will You allow a confession within eight days to be valid?"
"Yes. It can even be made later on, provided that the souls are in the state of grace when they receive Me on the first Saturday, and that they had the intention of making reparation to the Sacred Heart of Mary."
"My Jesus! And those who forget to form this intention?" she asked.
"They can form it at the next confession, taking advantage of their first opportunity to go to confession."
1929
On June 13, 1929 Lucia saw Mary holding Her Immaculate Heart with swords piercing it.
"There are so many souls whom the Justice of God condemns for sins committed against me, that I have come to ask reparation. Sacrifice yourself for this intention and pray."
1930
In 1930, Jesus appeared again to Lucia, now Sister Lucia. He said:
"The reason for five 1st Saturdays is the five blasphemies
- against Her Immaculate Conception ,
- against Her perpetual virginity,
- against Her divine maternity of God and mankind,
- involving instilling in the hearts of children indifference, contempt or hate against this Immaculate Mother
- against Her sacred Images."
1980
In Nicaragua, in 1980, the Blessed Mother appeared to humble sacristan Bernardo (now a priest!) to give the message that she wanted the rosary to be prayed every day. She told him to renew the practice of the Five First Saturdays in this bishop-approved visit so recent and relevant to our times. She said,
"You received many graces when you did this (kept the five first Saturdays)."
